Before qualifying a multilayer PCB supplier, connect each purchasing requirement to evidence: the proposed construction, manufacturing review, inspection plan, applicable certificates and change-control process. A general capability statement is useful context, but approval should address the specific board and the production site that will build it.
This checklist is for supplier review and procurement preparation. For Benchuang's board specifications, sample constructions and quotation requirements, use the multilayer PCB manufacturing capability page.
Match Supplier Evidence to Your Requirements
| Review area | Evidence to request | Acceptance question |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing scope | Production-site identity and a review of the actual layer count, material, thickness, copper and via structure. | Does the proposed route support this construction as a combination? |
| Quality-system qualification | Current certificate copies showing legal entity, site, scope and validity. | Do these records cover the intended supply scope and customer requirements? |
| Engineering review | Stack-up proposal, DFM questions and written approval of agreed changes. | Are unresolved assumptions identified before production release? |
| Inspection and testing | Inspection plan, required report examples and agreed acceptance limits. | Can the supplier deliver the evidence needed to accept the boards? |
| Revision and material control | Released-file baseline and a documented approval route for substitutions or process changes. | Who approves a change and how is the affected lot identified? |
| Repeat orders | Record-retention, lot-identification and repeat-build requirements. | Can the approved revision and material requirements be carried into the next order? |
Review the Board Construction Before Comparing Prices
Give each shortlisted supplier the same released data. Include the layer stack-up, laminate requirement, copper by layer, finished thickness, drill and via table, impedance targets and special-process notes. Mark provisional values and identify who approves the final construction.
A supplier's individual maximum values may not be achievable together in one board. Ask for the design-specific review, including any constraints that affect line/space, copper, aspect ratio, registration or panelization. For microvia constructions, compare the HDI manufacturing requirements with the intended stack-up.
Verify Documents and Their Scope
Check the legal entity and manufacturing address on certificates against the proposed production site. Confirm validity and scope using the issuing body's available verification process. Separate quality-system certification, material declarations and customer or product qualification: each answers a different purchasing requirement.
Ask which records are supplied with every shipment, which require a separate request and which need agreement before production. Depending on the project, these may include a certificate of conformance, material declarations, electrical-test results, impedance reports, microsection records or lot-identification information. Specify the required format and retention expectations.
Use the Prototype as an Approval Stage
Define what must be checked on the first build: dimensions, fit, stack-up, interfaces, specified test results and the required documentation. Record open issues and the disposition of any deviations. If prototype testing leads to a design change, release a new controlled file package before the pilot order.
For repeat production, identify which approvals remain applicable and which changes require a new review. Agree how changes to material, construction, production site or inspection requirements are communicated before the affected order proceeds.
Make Supplier Quotes Comparable
Use the same quantities, delivery assumptions and acceptance requirements. Separate tooling, engineering, inspection reports, packaging and freight when comparing prices. Request the starting event for the lead-time commitment and list dependencies such as material readiness or stack-up approval.
If assembly is included, add the BOM, placement file, assembly drawings and test instructions. Confirm the sourcing owner for each component and the approval process for alternatives. See the turnkey PCBA service scope and PCB and PCBA RFQ template.
Prepare Your Benchuang Supplier Review
Send the board construction, quantities, target date, required qualification documents and inspection requirements with your inquiry. Identify customer-specific approval conditions at the start. Review Benchuang's company information, check the multilayer PCB capability table, then request the project-specific documents and engineering review.
