Communications hardware combines RF, high-speed digital links, power conversion and control. Frequency labels or laminate brands alone do not establish electrical performance. Stack-up, copper geometry, interconnects and measurement methods must be reviewed together.
Engineering Review Points
- Materials: specify approved laminates or required properties and measurement conditions. Consider dielectric thickness, copper roughness, loss and hybrid-stack compatibility.
- Signal transitions: define impedance, connector launches, reference planes, via spans and backdrilling. Document drill depth and the permitted residual stub.
- Power and enclosure: identify currents, heat sources, mounting and grounding interfaces. Power sections may need a different construction from adjacent RF circuits.
- Verification: agree electrical testing, impedance coupons and additional RF measurements. Define fixtures, calibration, acceptance limits and shielding assembly requirements.
Prepare Your Project Files
Send fabrication and drill data, stack-up, material specification, impedance table and mechanical drawings. For assembled modules, include BOM, placement, connectors, programming and functional-test procedures. Specify substitution restrictions, quantities and target dates.
